Juxaposition series
In my series, “Juxtaposition,” I have created pairs of paintings where one subject is natural, the other man-made. Each pair is connected by a common feature such as shape, translucence, iridescence, line or pattern. For example, a jelly fish and light bulb are both round and translucent. An oil slick and the inside of an abalone shell are iridescent. A rubber duck and a
duckling are the same subject. The beaches can be piled with shells but also with plastic. Fishing nets and turtle shells have similar lines.
By painting this series, I hoped to expand on the awareness of the serious impact humans have
created in the water and on the beaches around the world.
From the first painting I did, which was the light bulb, I hoped to donate “Juxtaposition” to an organization protecting our oceans so that it could be used for fundraising or simply exhibiting to create interest. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas about the series and where it might be most beneficial.
